Talking of his influences he cites and draws inspiration from Beaton, Bown and early Bailey.
“Cambridge Jones is one of the most compelling new photographers in the UK,” says Alex Proud of Proud Galleries, Europe’s largest private photography gallery. |
The award winning photographer Cambridge Jones was recently described as “The Brit's answer to Annie Leibovitz”.
His first major exhibition was in 2004 at The Proud Galleries in London, Europe’s largest private photography gallery. The media coverage was unprecedented with over 12 TV & radio interviews and guest spots, seven pages of the portraits in London’s Observer Newspaper magazine and a host of other publications.
Following the success of this first show he has been lucky enough to receive a seemingly endless stream of major commissions. Including amongst others, books and exhibitions for The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, Prince Charles, The BBC, Nelson Mandela, Christ Church Oxford and upcoming comissions from London 2012 and The Welsh Assembly Govt.
More of his work can be seen at www.cjportfolios.com and recent shoots include a private commission from Tony & Cherie Blair, Phil Everly (The Everly Brothers) and Billy Bob Thornton.
He was recently made an ambassador to Prince Charles’ charity The Princes’ Trust along with Gwyneth Paltrow & Kevin Spacey.
He was educated at Oxford University (Honours Degree in Politics, Philosophy & Economics ) 1985-88
His commercial work centres primarily on the music business, politicians and actors.
His main love is working on the exhibitions, books and projects with which he constantly surprises us with freshness and originality.
Believing that the image created is more important than the photographer, Cambridge Jones is notoriously reluctant to talk about himself or his private life.
Miranda Sawyer in an Observer Newspaper interview did manage to reveal that he was co-owner of two of London’s coolest Soho venues. She also revealed that he played drums on a number one single and lived on a barge.
